Story:

Time was, most every man who arrived in Liberty Falls had mining on his mind. After Colorado gold was discovered circa 1859, and silver soon thereafter, thousands of folks dreamed they’d get rich quick and enjoy the lap of luxury. Well, it worked out for some—like Molly Brown and her husband in Leadville. But most of the others faced a much more work-a-day choice: stay in Colorado and find a suitable trade, or reverse direction and head Back East! John Wilson and his wife Maymie opted for the latter: and by the 1880s they proudly presided over one of the first thriving cattle ranches on the outskirts of Liberty Falls! In the 1860s, John worked as a day laborer in the Gold King Mines, and Maymie took in sewing and laundry for the unmarried miners and other single gents in Liberty Falls. They saved all they could and finally picked up a good-sized homestead. When they started their ranch, most every dollar they could scrape up went toward more head of cattle. But after 10 years or so, the Wilsons proudly traded in their original sod-roofed cottage for a handsome, two-story “Ranch House” with shutters, flower beds, a white-washed gate, and all the trimmings! Why, John even built an outhouse to match!
