Story:
What with all the building going on in Liberty Falls during the early days, tradesmen like carpenters and roofers had all the work they could handle. Why, the money was so good, some of them came in by train just for the spring-through-fall building season. One of these itinerant gents was Andrew Malloy—a jack-of-all-trades from Denver who helped build both the Clark Mansion and the DuBois place, two of the fanciest homes in Liberty Falls. A single fellow, Mr. Malloy kept away from the rowdy element and spent his free time helping out around the First Prairie Church.
Wouldn’t you know one Sunday morning at church, Miss Abigail Martin (Liberty Falls’ beloved school marm) introduced Andrew to a pretty Liberty Falls lass named Sally Smith. It was love at first sight, and before long “Handy Andy” Malloy was building this cozy little cottage for himself and his new bride Sally.
To make sure he’d have year-round work in town, Andy hung out his shingle as “Andrew Malloy, Handyman and Painter.” Between jobs in private homes, work at City Hall and other public buildings, Andy made himself a good living and he even saved time to do some fix-up chores around his own home—much to Sally’s delight!
