Story:

By the turn of the century in Liberty Falls, the old one-room schoolhouse was nothing but a nostalgic memory. Oh, the Old Clemen’s School was still in business serving Kindergarten through sixth grade, but now the town also boasted its own handsome Middle School. And today its latest academic showplace—the “Liberty Falls Secondary School”—was making its debut. With its many rooms—including a full basement—the new school had a host of attractions for the high school-age young people to enjoy and profit by. The teachers loved the new set-up, too—because the specialist in each discipline could have his or her own classroom to stock with appropriate materials and decorate with inspirational sayings, artwork, and learning aids. For instance, the Latin teacher framed and hung pictures of ancient Rome and Greece, and the chemistry teacher placed a huge chart on the wall listing the signs for all of the elements. With other towns nearby growing in stature, the “Liberty Falls Secondary School” now had worthy opponents for sporting contests, debates, and quiz bowls. After school, the basement gymnasium was always abuzz with one type of practice or another. And there were plans in the works for a Senior Dance and a formal graduation ceremony to take place each June on the Town Square Lawn!
