Story:

When Liberty Falls opened its Opera House way back in the 1860s, it was considered one of the most lavishly decorated buildings in the whole West. Many a famous singer and performer “trod the boards” of that old Opera House, including the beloved “Miss Lillian.” Yet the theatrical purists in town insisted that the stage set-up, acoustics and proportions of the Opera House were much better suited for musical events than for dramatic plays. Thus with generous gifts from many of the city’s “movers and shakers,” an elegant new “Liberty Falls Theatre” was built to help celebrate the turn of the century, 1900. The building was extremely imposing in height, with a balcony and second balcony inside featuring sharply sloping aisles so that every seat in the house had an excellent view of the stage. News spread across the country about this important new venue for comedy and drama, and before long the local productions were enhanced by a regular stream of short-run shows from as far away as New York City and even London! Yet the theatre’s founders were adamant that time be kept in the schedule for Liberty Falls talent and events—so everything from the annual high school play and graduation, to the children’s choir recital took place in the theatre, right on schedule!
