Story:

Herman and Emanuel Ross had come to Liberty Falls in 1883. Actually, they were not planning to settle here, but instead, had thought of opening a men’s clothing store in Denver. However, when their train broke down a mile from Liberty Falls, they found that they really liked this growing community. Thus, they decided, right then and there, to make Liberty Falls their home instead.

At first, they sold only work clothes that they ordered from the mills in the East. Then, they began to bring in some high-fashion suits from Boston and New York, and finally, in 1887, they built an addition to their clothing store and added a most welcome millinery shop that Susan, Herman’s wife, ran. Before long, she was able to offer some real fashions from the finest Paris salons.

Herman and Susan lived above the original shop, raising their two sons, who would eventually carry on the family business. Emanuel worked alongside his brother, Herman, for the next thirty-five years.
