Story:

Old-timers in Liberty Falls loved to spin yarns about the early days when Tully’s General Store was the only place you could buy anything for the home: food, tools, and even gents’ and ladies’ apparel! Then the Ross Bros. Clothiers opened on Main Street, and gentlemen at last had a special place to purchase fashionable clothing for business and personal wear. But the ladies’ clothing market was a longer time coming: perhaps because in the early days there were 10 or so single miners and workers in town for every local female!

The proprietor of “Susan’s Hat Shop,” Mrs. Susan Davidson, had spent her youth in Europe as the daughter of an international businessman. After her marriage to a financier, she found herself transplanted to Liberty Falls. Sadly, her husband’s business ventures failed and he died young of a heart attack. Left on her own with limited resources, Susan Davidson had a brainstorm. Why not use her many European contacts to bring beautiful millinery to the ladies of Liberty Falls? Susan bought a modest home and fixed up the two front rooms as a store. She offered hats for every season, lifestyle, and pocketbook, as well as friendly fashion advice for the Liberty Falls ladies.
