Story:

Ezra Swanson first came West as one of the old “Forty-Niners,” seeking his fortune in the California Gold Rush. But he never hit pay dirt, and by the early 1850s, he was ready to head back home to Missouri. Something about the Colorado countryside caught his imagination, though, and he never made it to his hometown of St. Louis. “What could I do to make a life for myself in this beautiful mountain land?” Swanson asked himself.

His first answer was farming, but many years later, Swanson saw a great opportunity in the booming little town of Liberty Falls. There was no one convenient source of feed, grain, and other supplies for the growing number of animals in town, so Swanson invested his life savings and opened up Swanson’s Feed & Grain. That first store was just a ramshackle stable with a few tables made of boards and barrels, but as his business grew, Swanson was able to construct a good-looking, barn-like building with plenty of room for a store and storage on the bottom two floors, and comfortable third-floor living quarters up above. He married, raised a family, and even joined the Volunteer Fire Department: a stalwart citizen of Liberty Falls!
